[Per Press Association] Dcnedin, Tbis Day. Henry Shirlley, a rabbitter, bailed up Mr Bay, manages of the Knriwas station and presenting a gun at his head forced him pn his Knees and kicked him. Constable Pascoe, accompaniod by one named McCrorie went to arrest the man who was regarded aa a lunatic. Shirlley shot him in the hip, and threatened McCrorie who fled. The lunatic made for Clinton, where ho flourished a constable's revolver and threatened to shoot anyone who interfered. Three brothets named Coghlan secured him on the verandah of the Tempenance Hotel after a violent struggle on Shirley's part to use the weapon. Pascoe received a 'severe flesh wound on the upper part of his hip which is serious.' <
