FEILDING J.C. SPRING MEETING. SECOND DAY. The weather remained fine for the second day's races of the Feilding Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, which was hela on Saturday last. The number of start* ers in each race was large, and every race well contested, the result being in doubt almost till the horses passed- the judge's box, which was a compliment to Mr J. E. Henry's careful handicapping. With the exception of ' one instance' there were no accidents during; the meeting, namely, in the Second Hack Hardies, when Scrap Iron fell early in « the race, rendering Anderson, his rider, unconscious for a few minutes. Fortunately, however, he was not seriously h urt. Messrs Saywell and James*, start- . ing machine was again used by Mr E. Wood in three races and proved very satisfactory. Mr Wood was also suet: ~\ ... cessfnl in effecting good starts with the flag in the remainder of the races. Tonganui and Slumber were tbe first to move from a splendid. . start effected by Mr Wood with J4ay-.; well and James' starting machine, and led round the back of tbe course. On the turn to the straight Gold Cup and Trickery moved to the front, a splendid finish beiug the result, Gold Cup winning by a length. Totalisator £472 ; dividend, £15 3s. Time, lmin 50sec. < A protest was entered against Gold Cup on the ground that he wasentered *. for an open race, but was dismisaedas he was not entered by -the owner but hy a person who was, at the time, negotiating for his purchase. The machine was again used to start First Sight being the first to gain an advantage, but soon gave place to Bowshot. On turning into the straight the placed horses tefck up the running, a close finish being, the result, Seabreeze winning by a length, * Gold Cup being two lengths away third.
