Tableaux Vivants.
Tbe tableaux entertainment recently given so successfully in aid of the Library funds, was repeated in tbe Assembly Rooms on Saturday evening in aid of the Feildiug State School, tha performers having kindly offered their services. The hall was well filled although the attendance was not quite so large as on the previous occasion. The minor defects, if we may call them such, noticeable in the prod action of the tableaux on the first occasion were remedied and greater effect given to the scenes represented. Mr R. F. Haybittle's string band played the opening overtures and also several selections during the evening. The silent tableau '• The Oracle" in which Mrs E. Goodbehere represented " The Priestess " and Mr Cooper " The Oracle," the supers being the same as previously, was given considerably greater effect to by the magnesium light being thrown on the characters from the front of She stage. The audience encored this tableau. The singing tableau " Auld Robin Grey," in which Miss Diamond sang the strain was very good. The Japanese fan song by six ladies was very good, and was encored, the latter part of the song evidently suiting the taste of a large portion o. the audience. The character song and chorus " The bogie man " by Mr Dumaresq and a chorus of fourteen ladies in character was really well produced, an imperative and well deserved encore being demanded. The character song " Where are you going my pretty maid " by Miss L. Roe (as " Maid") and Mr A. G. Carty (" man ") was cleverly given und encored, and the parody by Sliss Giesen (University lass) Mr Goodbehere (man of to.day) was well received. The grouping and dancing in the " Gipsy scene and Cachuca dance " was an improvement on the previous occasion. Mrs G. Kirton, as "Esmerelda" sang the strain appropriate to the scene. The " statuary " was also encored. The singing tableaux " Tit for tat," by Mr and Mrs J. G. Oldham was encored, the free style of tbe latter being much admired. The singing tableau " May Queen " with Miss Diamond as " Queen was also encored. Miss N. Fry sang " Caller Herria " in character in her usual pleasing manner. The tableau " Queen Catherine's dream," in which " The Angelus " was sung by angels with invisible chorus, was very pretty and was encored. The entertainment was concluded with the National Anthem by the performers and audience. Tbe accouipani ments were played by Miss Giesen, Mrs Dyer, and G. Haybittle. Mr O. C. Cooper acted as stage manager being assisted by Mr Kelleher, who with the organiser, Miss Johnston, are to be commended for their smartness in staging tbe scenes. Mr Carty acted as business manager in place of Mr J. H. Stevens, who was unable to undertake those duties on this occasion. Mr F. Fowles worked the magnesium light in the tableaux from the front at one side of* the stage, the effect being an improvement. During the interval, Mr H. Worsfold, Chairman of the school committee, thanked the performers and audience i on behalf of the committee for their as- ; distance and attendance that evening. I After the performance a meeting was held of those connected with the entertaiment when gold bracelets were presented to Miss Johnston and Mrs Mac- | arthur in recognition of the valuable services those ladies had rendered. Mr 10. Cooper made the presentations. The proceeds from the entertainment will amount to about £19 and the expenses are under £6, leaving a net profit of about £13 for tbe school prize fund.
