(Per Press Association'!. Wellington, November 26. Several changes are about to take place in the Lunacy Department. Dr Barns in charge of the Porirua Asylum resigns for the purpose of entering on private practice, probably in Australia. Dr Hassell, of the Auckland Asylum owing to the health of his wife comes to Wellington and will have charge of the Mount View and Porirua Asylums. Dr Fookes, in charge of Mount View, succeeds Dr Hassell at Auckland. Dr Craig, of the Seacliffc Asylum, Duuediu, will probably come to Wellington as assistant medical superintendent at Porirua. InvercakgiliL, Nov. 27. After considering the evidence in the alleged dumuiyism case at Centre Hill, \ the Land Board came to the conclusion that there was not sufficient to prove that t^e applicant's declaration was made j falsely. The Board unanimously agreed that the title be issued to Smith. Mr J. W. Kelly, M.H.R., addressed his constituents to-night. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by a substantial majority. Wanganui, Novr. 28. The silver jubilee of the Very Rev. Father Kirk was celebrated to-night, the proceedings taking the form of a presentation of a purse of sovereigns of L2OO and an illuminated address. A large number of people of different denominations contributed to the purse and attended the meeting in St Mary's Hall. Wellington. Novr. 28. At Carterton James Meyrich, late licensee of the Queen's Hotel, Wellington, attempted suicide by taking " rough on rats " A constable was in the act of serving a summons on him, when Meyrich culled the poison from his pocket and took a mouthful, but was prevented from swallowing any.
