Pacific Cable Question.
v— — — The Premier is in receipt of the following cable message from the Premier of New South Wales : — " Have to-day (20th) received following cable from Agent-General: — High Commissioner for Canada and AgentsGeneral for the Australian Colonies, except South Australia and Western Australia, had an interview with the Secretary for State for the Colonies to-day, relating to Pacific cable, Chamberlain agreed to appoint a Commission as requested by colonies, Great Britain, Canada and Australasian Colonies,, each to nominate two Commissioners, that is to say six in all. Eepeat this joint telegram to other colonial Governments, including New Zealand ,and communicate names of colonies' nominees. Prompt action desirable. Terms of reference, which, will be forwarded to you to-mor-row will include full enquiry into all details." Yesterday the Premier received a cable from the Premier of South Australia on the same subject, stating his opinion that there should be three representatives from the Australian Colonies, one being allowed to Western Australia. This is urged in view of the special in- ( terests of Western and South Australia.
