The Unemployed.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, Nov. 28. Eight men, who described themselves as " surplus labour," waited on the Mayor this morning and requested him to call a public meeting to discuss the possibility of work being found for a large uumber of men out of work and in distressed circumstances, whom they represented. The Mayor informed the deputation that, though he was willing to do everything in his power to assist them, he did not think it would further their interests to call a meeting of citizens at this time of the year. He would advise them to approach the Christchurch M's.H.R., and endeavor to get them interested in their requirements.
