Probable Galls to the Upper House.
OFFER MADE TO SIR GEORGE GREY. There is a rumour in circulation to the effect that His Excellency the Governor has given way with respect to the four appointments to the Legislative Council recommended by Government at the beginning of the year, and that, his opposition having now been withdrawn, the appointments are to be made. It is said that in the course of a few days it will be decided who are to be the four gentlemen who shall be honoured with calls to the Council. A few days ago the Premier took occasion to ascertain, through the AgentGeneral, whether or not Sir George Grey would be pleased to accept an appointment to -the Legislative Council if nominated. The Agent-General has now replied that, whilst Sir George Grey does not approve of the constitution of the Council, yet if duty demanded he would be quite prepared to take his place there, and do his duty to the Colony. His health; however, at present would not permit this to be done. — Times. _^^_____
