Delayed Telegrams.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, Novr. 21. At a special uieecing of the cptpinjttee [ of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, the following resolution was passed:-- --" That in the opinion of the Committee of this Chamber the Order-in-Council is- ( sued by the Postmaster-General with reference to delayed telegrams is a retrograde step, and is not required for revenue purposes. The annual report of the Postmaster • General for the vcar 1894-5 shows that the whole of the operations of the department for that period resulted in a credit balance of L 2849 11s 9d. The Committee is further of opinion that the proposed alteration will have the effect of decreasing the number of delayed telegrams without a corresponding increase in the ordinary messages, and that the present revenue of the department will be diminished if the existing regulations are altered."
