(Post's Correspondent.) Sydney, November 6. Some strange evidence was given at the inquest on the body of the girl Harriet England, which was found at Manly Beach. The girl had been employed at a restaurant, but left because she did not like waiting. A nursegirl who was on Manly Beach at midnight with a male companion saw deceased rush into the sea. She was washed back into shallow water, and the narsegirl appealed to her companion to rescue the woman. He declined to do anything, and deceased once more rushed out among the waves, and was carried out to sea. At Scone a man named Sivers was in the act of striking bis wife with a walking stick, when he fell against a table and cut his head open, and died lyThere have been persistent rumours that, in consequence of the drought the celebrated Mount Morgan works will shut down. The position of affairs is exaggerated, but the matter is engrossing the serious attention of the directors. The water supply is not yet exhausted, and meantime every effort is being made to obtain further supplies.
