A Narrow Escape.

(Per Press Association.) Christchubch, Novr. 15. The ship Soukar, which arrived at Lyttelton to-day via Otago, had a narrow escape of going on the rocks at Okane's Bay. She was making for port ou Sunday night, the weather being thick with no wind, but a heavy sea and the vessel drifted in shore, dragging her anchor. This morning she had drifted to within 100 yards from the rocks when the wind sprang up from the south-west and she was able to set canvass. A telephone message was sent to Lyttleton this morning regarding the dangerous position of the Soukar, and a tug was at once despatched, but on her arrival at Okane's the vessel, with the aid of the sou'wester which had just sprung up, was working out. She lost an anchor and seven fathoms of chain.
