The Governor's Visit to Feilding.

•■ Between three and four hundred people assembled at the Feilding Railway Station on the arrival of the midday train from Wellington to-day, to welcome His Excellency Lord Glasgow on this his first visit to this district, he being the guest of C. A. J. Levett, Esq., of Kiwitea. On the arrival of the train His Excellency was met by the Mayor, W. A. Sandilands, Esq., and Crs E. Goodbehere, A. R. Allan, H. Wors/old, J. Gould, G. H. Saywell, W. G. Fowles, and W. A. L. Bailey, who were introduced by the Mayor. The Town Clerk, Mr G. C Hill, then read the address of welcome : — " To His Excellency the Right Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow, Knight Grand Cross of the most distinguished order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in Chief in and over Her Majesty's colony of New Zealand and its dependencies : " We, the Mayor and Councillors of the Borough of Feilding, on behalf of ourselves and our fellow Burgesses, have much pleasure in welcoming Your Excellency on the occasion of thia your first visit to our town, and although we regret that the shortness of your stay will prevent us from offering you that hospitality which we should otherwise have been most anxious to tender you, we trust that future occasion will arise which will enable us to prove to Your Excellency not only our esteem and respect for yourself personally, but our loyalty to our beloved Queen, whose representative you are in this colony. "Dated this 18th day of November, 1895. " Signed on behalf of the Burgesses of the Borough of Feilding, •• W. A. Sandilands, Mayor." His Excellency thanked the Mayor and Councillors for the address of welcome, and in doing so said he did not . expect anything in the -hape of a reception would be tendered as the notice was bo short, and his visit was, also, to be short. He was glad to know this district and the people were flourishing, he having heard of its prosperity from his late friend General Feilding, whose death he was sure they would all join with bim in regretting. He would send a written reply. Three hearty cheers were given for His Excellency, also for the Hon R. J. Seddon who was on his way to Wanganui, and was present when the address was read. Mr Pirani, M.H.R.. was also in attendance. His Excellency then took his departure in a pair horse carriage driven by Mr Younger, for Mr Levett's whose guest he will be for the few hours of his stay in tbe Kiwitea. It is understock that Lord Glabgow will visit the grave of his friend and relative, the late Capt. Dalrymple. On his return this evening he will depart at once for Stoney Creek, near Palmerston, where he will dine with Mr Russell, and in the morning he will go by train to Wellington.
