Russian Barbarities.

__ 0 . A Dunedin lad, now at sea, writes says the Star, from Singapore to his friends an account of what he saw on a Russian troopship that was lying at that port, having called in for coal. " There were,'' he says, " 1100 convicts on board, bound for Siberia. The crew consisted of fifty men, every one with a revolver hanging at his belt. I looked through a port and the sight was cruel. All the 'tween deck's space was barred off into 6ft squares, and there were the convicts caged up hke lions. They had nothiug on. A meal fir six men is three hard biscuits and a quart of water. Aft were the women, looking fearful. We asked one oftbe crew why the women had no bedding, and he told us that more than half of them were mad with the heat, and that they would tear up the bedding and strangle themselves with it. The look of these women made me sick, and I don't want to see another woman for twelve months. I was on the shin's deck four hours, and will never forget the sight.
