A Shocking Tragedy.

o (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, November 16. A sad tragedy is reported from the south. A single woman named Catherine Tait was found hanging in the bath-room in the house in which she had been lodging, her twelve month old child was found smothered in bed, she left a letter stating that she had smothered her darling, and if the father of the child had given her hi- name the tragedy would never have happened. The wound in the woman's neck showed that she had first made determined attempts to cut her throat with a knife and scissors.
