The head master of the Bull's school wrote notifying that the assistant mistress was ill and asking for a relieving teacher. The Wesleyan Church choirs from Campbelltown, Saudon and Feilding held a picnic at Mr A'Court's farm Feilding- Campbelltown road, yesterday afternoon, there being about 150 persons present, including visitors from Palmerston and other centres. In the evening a social was held in Mr A'Court's granery, when games, singing, etc., were indulged in and concluded a most pleasant day's amusement. Before dispersing three cheers were given for Mr and Mrs A'Court for their untiring efforts in making the picnic successful. Tbe season was wound up at the Excelsior Skating Rink last evening with a social and dance, when a large Dumber of skaters and spectators were present. A sword dance in Highland costume was given by Mr W. H. Whishaw. Miss L. Hall played a violin solo, accompanied by Miss Valentine on the piano. The Maypole was performed on skates by Misses L. Hall, M. Heald, and Valentine in evening dresses, and Masters G. Haybittle (clown), N. Bray (boy blue), and C. Reade (negro). The effect of this performance was very pretty. The Feilding Brass Band was in attendance and played a number of selections during the evening, which was wound up with a dance, a fair number taking part. The music was supplied by Mr R. F. Haybittle's string band. At the Palmerston Caledonian Society Sports held yesterday the 120 yds flat race was won by J. Bo wick, with J. W. Pike second, and vV\ Wyeth third ; Two mile bicycle race, J. McDowell (145 yds) R. P. Clarkson (scr) 2, and F. Hunt (scr) 3. The 220 yds flat was won by J. W. Wyeth, P. Pendersen 2, and E. T. Ellis 3. S. Haines (90yds) won the mile, with A. Halligan 2, and H. P. Brown 3 ; the 2-mile walk was won by F. Johansen, J. D. Hamilton 2, and C. Wilson 3. Ladies' Bracelet. J. Bowick 1, J. Power 2, and W. Wyety 3. Five mile bicycle race, R. P. Clarkson 1, F. Hunt 3. 440 yds flat E. E. Woon 1, W. Wyeth 2, J. Bowick 3. 300 yds hurdle race, P. Dixon 1, S. McDowell 2- Half-mile race, S. Haines 1, E. E. Woon 2. The hunter's competition was won by Wharite, with Miss second, and Balbus third.
