Concert at Cheltenham.

A fairly well attended oat very pleasant concert was held in the Cheltenham Public Hall last evening in aid of the piano fund, an instrument having been recently purchased for use in the hall. The first item on the programme was a pianoforte overture by Miss Hitch. Mrs Palmer followed with the song " Sweet bells are ringing." Mr H. Templar saug j "Oh hear the wild wind blow." Mr R. Somerville played the solo " Old Robin Grey" on an Old English concertina. Miss Laing sang " Apart," and " Coming through the Rye," in response to an enencore. Mr Coventry song " When other lips." Miss Richardson sang " won't you buy my pretty flowers." Mr R. S. Fowler was encored for tbe comic song •'Climbing up the golden stair," and gave " Wait for the wagon " as an encore. Mrs Stewart sang " Tit for Tat." The second part was commenced with a pianoforte overture by Mr Coventry, followed by the English concertino solo " March of the men of Harleigh," by Mr Somerville, who gave an " Imitation of the bagpipes " as an encore. Miss M. Laing sang " Whisper and I shall hear " and as an encore " Ye banks aud braes." Mr W. D. M. Banks gave a short but amusing " sermon," for which he was recalled. Mrs Spencer sang" The wicket gate," and Miss Richardson " Come back my lad." Mr H. Templar sang " The little hero." Mrs Stewart was encored for the song "No sir," and repeated a verse in response. Mrs E. Palmer gave " The blind girl to her harp," and Mr R. S. Fowler was encored for the song 11 Time," giving in response " Meet her when the sun goes down." Mr W. Jones proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the performers which was carried by acclamation. Mr R. L. Fowler, who, with Mr W. Jones, lent valuable assistance in arranging the concert, acted as stage manager. At the conclusion on the concert a dance was held, which was well attended. Messrs R. S. Fowler (piano), and R. Somerville (concertina) supplied the music and Mr Fowler made an efiicient M.C. The proceeds of the concert and dance amounted to about £9.
