o CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON. (Per Press Association). Wellington, Nov. 8. The match between Canterbury and Wellington began at 12.15 to day. The visitors were at a disadvantage of only landing an hour before play began, but nevertheless they gave a very good display of batting for two hours and then collapsed. Four wickets only were down for 137, but the last six men merely added 32. ■ Lawrence was top scorer with 66, in making which he was three times let off, twice very badly. Wilding came n9Xt with 31, and Cuff and Ridley added 27 and 24. Uphami took four wickets for 49, and Ashbolt, who bad no success tit first, came on late in the innings and qnickl j disposed of the three men, 23 in all being hit off him. When Wellington went in they made none to good a start, A. Blacklock, who is generally good for double figures falling to a fast ball from Gunthorpe ; while Cross iutnped out to a trimmer from Frankish and R. Blacklock, however, scored freely and when the former had to retire through straining bis side, Gore , carried on the scoring with a succession of telling cuts, When the stumps were drawn the total was up to 70 for two wickets. Holdship 18, Blacklock (not out) 18, and Gore (not , out) 17. This Day. , The match was resumed to day with magnificent weather. At noon Wellington had o wickets down for 123 runs. R. Blacklock 20 ; Gore 25. Later. At the luncheon adjournment Wellington had increased score to 214 for loss of 9 wickets— Holdship 47, Howard 51, Fitzsimmons 19.
