Melbourne, November 7. Glorious weather prevailed for the third day's racing. Results : — Oak Stakes, 1J miles — Auraria 1, Georgie 2, The Parisienne 3. Won easily by two and a half lengths. Time, 2min 46£ sec. j Flying Stakes, 7 furlongs — Hova 1, Wallace 2, Mostyn 3. Hova won by a length from Wallace, three lengths separating second and third. Time, 1 mm 27 £sec. Spring Handicap, 1J miles— Mischief 1, Toreador and Reconstruction dead heat. Won by a neck. Time, 2min 11£ sec. Second Nursery Handicap, 5 furlongs —Coil 1, Ariki 2, Skyla 3. Won by a length. Time, lmin 3£sec. Veteran Stakes, 1£ miles — Palo Alto 1, Quiver 2, Preston 3. Dawes, rider of Quiver, claims that tbe mare was knocked out of the race at a critical time when holding a good inside position. Throngh being accidentally and heavily bumped by Valiant he declares she lost the race through hard luck. The attendance is estimated at between ninety and one hundred thousand, which is the largest for seventy years. The receipts were £1000 above those of last year. The Argus states that betting was heavier than for the last four years, and the same paper says the moral of the Cup is that the Derby was not a true run race and should have gone to Auraria, with Waterfall second. A brewer named Lindsay was found drowned in a vat of beer in the Metropolitan Brewery just after witnessing the Cup race. It is suspected he committed suicide. The St. Albans' Estate, Trenton, Carnage, and several other horses are to be auctioned on Wednesday. Freda has quite recovered from her fractured pelvis and broken ribs. She leaves fox New Zealand with the test of Mr Gollan's team within a fortnight.
