Freezing Works for Gisborne.

(Per Press Association.) Gisborne, November 6. A special meeting of the Harbor Board was held to-day to consider a proposal for the purpose of establishing freezing works in opposition to Nelson Bros. Mr Shelton, manager for Common, Shelton, and Co., who submitted the proposal, said dissatisfaction had been expressed at the low prices offered for local sheep compared with the outside price, and it had been proposed to start freezing works on cooperative lines, the sheepfarmers taking shares. Mr Shelton further stated that he had received a cable from London authorising him to buy the total output of the proposed works for January and February at twopence a pound, which would give not less than ten shillings a sheep. The Board passed a resolution expressing approval of the object intended, and stating that so far as it was in a position to give effect to the object it was prepared to enter into negotiations and conclude a lease upon terms to be arranged.
