EUROCLYDON WINS THE N.Z. CUP. (Per Press Association.) Ohbistchubch, Not. 5. There was lovely weather for the opening of the G.J.G. Spring Meeting and a large attendance. The sum of £15,509 passed through the totalisator. Results : — New Zealand Cup, 1500 sots, 2 miles — Euroclydon 1, Chaos 2, Gipsy Grand 3. Also ran— North Atlantic, Stern-, chaser, Impulse, Lady Zetland, Skirmistier, Pegasus, Aldershot, Marino, The Artist. Manno and Sternchaaer were first away, but before the course proper was reached Gipsy Grand ran through and showed the way past the stand, with Marino at his girth and Aldershot, Sternchaser, Impulse, The Artist, Pegasns, Lady Zetland and Chaos following in the order aamed with; Euroclydon last. Before Cntts' was reached Aldershot supplanted Gipsy Grand, who was steadied, leaving Marino to go on second jnst in front of Stern* chaser, with Gipsy Grand, The Artist, North Atlantic, Skirmisher and Pegasus as his immediate attendants, arid Euroclydon still last. Aldershot continued to show the way down the back stretch, where Sternchaser commenced to fall away, leaving Gipsy Grand to go on second, Impulse third, and The Artist, Pegasus, Marino and Skirmisher at the head of the others. Aldershot was still striding along in front as they swept past the kennells, but Marino was already in difficulties, and Sternchaser had commenced to tail off last, while Euroclydon was moving up. Once in. the straight The Artist and Pegasus were beaten, and Impulse joined Alder* shot. In the next hundred yards both leaders were in difficulties, and Gipsy Grand md Chaos drew out, with Lady Zetland and Skirmisher at their heels and Euroclydon coming fast. Skirmisher was the first to retire and after Chaos had settled Gipsy Grand he was challenged by Euroclydon, who bad him well beaten in the last -two hundred yards and won by a cleat length from Chaos, with Gipßy Grand three quarters of a length away third, Skirmisher half a length further off fourth, Lady Zetland fifth, The Artist sixth, Pegasns seventh, North Atlantic eighth. Impulse ninth, Marino tenth, and Sternchaser some distance away last. Time, 3min Bl£sec. Dividends, £17 16s and £20 9s. Riccarton Welter Handicap, 6 furlongs—Orion 1, Stockfish 2, Ambush 8. Eleven others started. Won easily by three lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, lmin 17£ sec. Dividends, £18 9s and £17 6s. Welcome Stakes, 4 furlongs—Bombshell 1, Marlin 2, St Ouida 2. Won by half a length, a similar distance between second and third. Time, 48$ sec. Dividend, £5 16s and £6 Is 6d. Ladies' Purse, 1£ miles— Artilleur 1, Salvo 2, Goodwood 8. Won by a neck ; Goodwood half a dozen lengths away third, lime, 2min 45£ sec. Dividend, £4 Is and £4 12s. Stewards' Handicap, 6 furlongs— Vanilla 1, Orion 2, Waiuku 8. Won easily by two lengths, a length and a half between second and third. Time, lmin 14£ sec. Dividends, £42 12s 6d and £48 17s 6d.
