When the barrier lifted, Hopscotch, Trenchant, Mabee, Preston, Wallace and Rewi -were amongst the first to move. Passing the stand Mahee, on the rails, was first, with Preston, Wallace, Brain, Te Whiti, Hova, Lord Richmond, Delaware and Osculator following in the order named, and the Admiral last but two. Much the same position was maintained up the straight and round the back of the course. Mahee was still leading at the seven-furlong post, followed by Preston, Wallace, Rewi, Hova, Auraria and Lord Richmond. Sweeping down to the home turn, Hopscotch made a forward move, and the field generally closed up on the leaders. Turning into the straight Hopscotch was in com* mand, with Lord Richmond as his nearest attendant; until below the distance, Hayes brought Hova to the front, and the Melbourne Stakes winner came striding along as if he had everything beaten, bat Stevenson then shabk ap Auraria, and the latter kept gaining en the leader, Delaney at the same time bringing up Waterfall, and threatening danger. The issue then resolved itself into a tussle between Auraria and Hova, and the former fairly wearing down her opponent in the run to the post, won by a neck; Burrabari a length and a half off third, and Waterfall fourth, th«n . came Srenchant, Toreador, Te Whiti, .
