France and New Hebrides.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney, This Day. The Revs Paton and Watt have arrived from New Hebrides. The former says there are rumors among the French residents that the islands of the group will be annexed by France before the end of the year. French colonisation and trading companies are making strong ef forts to extend commercial relations which to bis mind points to the wishes of the local Franchmen to have the Islands under the French flag. He says it is of immense importance that the Islands shonld remain under the British flag. If France annexes the Group it will break the chain of secure harbours which would be of importance in the event of international difficulties. Mr Watt views the matter in a similar light.
