Confirmation at St. John's Church.
St. John's Anglican Churoh was crowded to overflowing last evening on the occasion of a confirmation service by Bishop WaJJis, this being the first he has held in Feilding. The service commenced with a shortened form of evening prayer, after which the Bishop delivered an impresaive address, explaining to the thirty* seven candidates presented the nature and solemnity of the question he was about to put to them. His Lordship took as his text Ephesians, c. VI., v. 11 : " Put ye on the whole armour of God." The question was put to the candidates individually, eacn answering the question as his or her name was read out, after which the Bishop confirmed, sitting in his chair in front of the holy table, laying his hands on the heads of each of the candidates as they knelt before him. After the laying-on of hands the Bishop addressed the confirmees and congregation, taking up the thread of his previous discourse, both of which were listened to by the large congregation with rapt attention. Hymns appropriate to the occasion were snog by the congregation, led by a strong choir, and the service throughout was most impressive.
