A REJOINDER.

TO THE KDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — I was somewhat surprised to read Mr Coote's letter in the Star this evening, and would point out that the members of the Polo Club are not altogether responsible for the alleged cutting up of the golf ground. It is true a certain nnmber of them have of late been practising on the top of one of the hills of Messxs Lethbridge and Son's property, but they purposely kept clear of the golf licks as much as possible. This has beea going on for some time past, and while the golf players were taking part in their game, yet we were never once asked to refrain from riding over that particular part of the ground, or told that we were doing any damage. We certainly have not been guilty of converting their " £1 greens " into goals, or even riding indiscriminately across them. Several people, other than polo players, are in the habit of exercising horses, &c, on Messrs Lethbridge's bills, and they are probably the one's who " ride and race " between the holes, thus making the " lies " bad for golfers. Mr Coote complained to me in the sale yards last Friday that part of the golf ground had been rather seriously damaged, when I pointed out to him that I did not think it was entirely the work of polo players. However, I promised to speak to the club members with the view of getting them to practice elsewhere, and I lihink Mr Coote might have had the courtesy to wait a few days and ascertain if fche conversation with me had had the desired result, instead of rushing into print and probably making friction between the two dubs. In conclusion, I would say the members of the Polo Club are not the class of people to interfere with or hamper the game of golf or any other sport. I am, &c., Ormond Cooper, Hon. Sec. Feilding Polo Clnb. November 4th, 1895.
