OCTOBER WEATHER, 1885.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAB. Sib,— The rainfall for the past month was 2*86 inches, as against o*4o inches for October, 1894. Rain was registered on 17 days, the heaviest fall in one day being 074 inches on the 20th. There were 8 froßty nights, viz, on the let, 2nd and 3rd, but the temperature did not go below 28 degrees. The mean temperature at 9.80 a.m. wae 53*83, as against 58*22 for October, 1894. The maximum heat was 82 degrees on Sunday, the 27th, and the mercury reached 80 degrees on the 28tb, and 79 degrees on the 80th. Except on one occasion, viz, in October, 1893. 1 have never, until now, registered a tempera, ture so high as 80 degrees daring the. month of October, and yet it is singular to notice the fact that although the mean maximum temperature for October, 1894, was 67*90 degrees, it was only 62*74 degrees for the past month of October, and a similar discrepancy is shown above between the mean temperature at 9*Bo a.m. in October, 1894 and 1895. I am, &c., Saml. Goodbehebe. Feilding, November Ist, 1895.
