Library Committee.

The Library Committee met last evening. Present— Messrs J. H. Stevens (chairman), T. Watson (secretary), A. B. Allan (treasurer), L. E. Reade, G. W. Fowles, J. G. Cobbe, S. Andrews, Rev. W. H. Jndkins. Ihe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts amounting to £2 19s lOd were passed for payment. A letter was received from Mr C. L. McLean, resigning his position as a member of the committee, which was accepted with regret. Mr Stevens reported that there not. being time to call a meeting, he had interviewed the Mayor with reference to a suggestion that a town clock should be placed in the new municipal building with the result that he was informed a clock could be put in the building. Hfr had ascertained that the coat of a suitable clock would be from 1 £15 to £20. Mr Stevens also reported that Mrs Mao Arthur had offered to donate the late Mr D. H. Mac Arthur's books of reference on New Zealand to the library as soon as it was completed. Also that a number of ladies had undertaken to get up a first-class concert in aid of the library funds, and that it would be given on November 22nd. The Librarian's report Was read showing that 296 books had been issued during the month to 69 contributors - and two contributers to the boys' section ; one new book had been added to the library. The Treasurer reported a credit balance in hand of £44. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Allan, seconded by Mr Fowles, That the original resolution with regard to calling for applications for office.of librarian before removing into new premises be deferred for three months. Resolved, That the offer of the ladies to get up an entertainment in aid of the funds of the library be accepted with thanks, and that this committee give all possible assistance. Resolved, That Crs Allan and Fowles be requested to bring before the Borough ' Council the advisability of formally opening the new Council Chambers and library. Resolved, That Messrs Jndkins, Cobbe and the secretary be a sub-committee to revise rules and report at the next meeting. Resolved, That the Library Committee meet on the last Friday in each month. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
