The Proposed Chartered Company.
Oi (Per Press Association.) Sydney, October 31. Commenting on the proposed Northern Australian Chartered Company, the Herald says that when tbe question of giving a constitutional government to West Australia was before the House of Lords, a belief was expressed that the northern part of the continent ought to be reserved for a Crown Colony, to be worked by Indian or Polynesian labour. Therefore, if the scheme is seriously pressed, many of the conditions for its favorable realisation will rudely disturb the dreams of many of the colonies. The Telegraph says the creation of such vested interest would seriously imperil the destiny of the colonies, and is opposed to Federation of the Australian nationhood. It requires no gift of prophesy to foretell that if such a company got the right it would flood our shores with inferior races, and would keep out any federation which aimed at excluding them. The scheme would involve the introduction of a system of Government utterly foreign to Australian instincts. ,
