DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. SMALL-POX CASES. DEATH OF MAJOR DANE. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, This Day. There are now six declared cases of small-pox among the Cuzco's passengers, and two or three other cases are supposed to be developing. A private cable message has been received announcing the death of Major Dane, the well-known lecturer, at Honolulu. The captain of the ship Dumfrieshire, from Liverpool, reports sighting wreckage 500 miles westward of Cape Luewin. It consists of lashed spars as if it had been used for a raft. Nothing else was visible. Perth, This Day. The Custom-house at Freemantle and the large storage sheds on the wharf adjoining, containing an immense quantity of spirits and produce, were completely destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at £60,000. Albany, This Day. Buxton, the new Governor of South Australia, arrived here in the Austral, and on landing received a warm welcome. He reaches Adelaide on Tuesday. Melbourne, This Day. The colony's gold yield for the last quarter was 184,0000z5, an increase of 17,0000zs over that of the previous quarter.
