William Mackay, eldest son of Mr Mackay the Bonanza King, broke his neck in France while playing polo. Mr Gladstone, in a letter to the Prince of Montenegro, praises that little country as exceeding in glory all the war traditions of the world, Home, October 21. It is reported here that Menelek, King of Abyssinia, was killed by a stroke of lightning. Bombay, October 20. The rebels at Goa have looted the Treasury. The Duke of Oporto commands a punitive expedition, which leaves Lisbon to-day. The Governor of Goa is closely beseiged, and his chief officials have fled. St. John's, Oct. 21. The arrests in connection with the smuggling scandals include Tobin, Whiteway, and the governor of the Savings Bank.
