ANONYMOUS WRITING.
TO THE KDITOR OF THE STAR. Sik,— lf "Colonist" thinks that by misrepresenting facts he can gain an advantage over me he is very much mistaken, and as for his adage that " lawyers are adepts at getting • out of scrapes by hook or by crook,' " whilst not admitting its present application to myself — as " Colonist " evidently intends it to do— l may retaliate by saying " Ditto, Brother Smut." The fact is that " Colonist " has never given a straight-for-ward or categorical reply to any of my letters or to any observations therein contained referring to himself personally, and of the truth of this I am quite willing to be judged by any unprejudiced person who has perused ihe correspondence. " po}onj§t " ijow (I parinpt help thinking) wilfully misrepresents my expressed opinion on the subject of anonymous letters, for both he and your readers must know very well that my objection to anonymons letters related only to those exposing public abuses as being ineffectual in effecting a remedy for the abases complained of. " Colonist's" references to Sir Walter Scott as an anonymous writer is, as I said before, quite irrelevant to the present discussion, as he must very well know — or if not he ought to do. I am, &c, Saml. Goodbehehe. Feilding, 19th October, 1895.
