A Silver Mine on Fire.
• (Per Press Association.) Sydney, October 21. The fire in block eleven; which was supposed to have been extinguished, has found its way to the 150 feet level in block ten, which is now alight. This Day. A large area has subsided on the levels where the fire was located. There have been indications for some time that it was approaching from block eleven, but it was thought the barriers erected would prevent further invasion. It is supposed to have made its way through underground fissures. All the available force is engaged in fighting it, and immense quantities of water are being poured in. The latest official reports state it is cobfined to a small section on the boundary of block eleven and the management are very hopeful they will prevent its spread. The outbreak has had a very depressing effect on the shares in block ten which fell from 75s to 655. They have since slightly recovered. Shares in other mines in the vicinity are also consider* ably affected.
