At Saturday's meeting of the Pohangiva County Council a somewhat important resolution was carried, on the motion of Cr Selby, seconded by Cr Brown, relative to sections in what is known as the Wanganui Harbor Board Endowment Block. The resolution reads as follows :— " That the clerk obtain from the owners of the undermentioned sections the price per acre paid for and the date of purchase of their land. Having obtained the information he apply to the Wanganui Harbor Board for the thirds on same. If he fails to get the thirds from the Harbor Board the Council's solicitor be instructed to lay a clear statement of the case before Sir Bobert Stout and get his opinion as to the legality of the claim. Sold for cash — Sections 1 to 5, block VL, 1, 2, 3, block IL, 17, 5, 4, 3, 10, 6, 8, 19, block V. ; deferred payment— lß, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 2 and 1, block V., 7 and 9, block V." Cr Selby pointed out, in speaking to the resolution, that 1561 acres were sold, in July 1889, on deferred payment, and 3300 acres were sold in Feilding in February 1891 for cash. He expressed the opinion that the thirds from these* sections should have been paid to the local body (now the Pohangina Caunty Council.) If that were not so it would have been unnecessary to have made Special provision in ttie Enabling Act when the Wanganui Harbor Board disposed of the remainder of the Endowment Block to the Pohangina Small Farm Association, exempting them from payment of thirds.
