Scripture Lessons in Schools.

Mr C. E. Button and Mr G. J. Smith have, with tbe Executive of the Wellington Association for the introduction of Scripture test books, drafted a Bill entitled " The Scripture Test Books in Public Schools." Mr Smith has introduced it,- but it is not to be considered till next session. Tbe Bill provides for the introduction of " The Irish National School i Book of Scriptnre Lessons" in the public j schools, subject to a vote of the householders throughout the colony. Should this vote be in favor of the introduction, the Minister for f Education is to instruct '■ that in all public schools in the colony the lessons be given for the first half-hour of each forenoon, and before such lessons the»Lord's prayer may be Baid No child whose parents or guardians object is to be required to be present, and any teacher showing conscientious objections may be be relieved from giving the Scripture lessons.— Post.
