THE BELL TOWER.
TO THE EDITOK OF THE STAE. Sir, —l see there is a movement on foot to shift the great eyesore of the Borough from Manchester Square to the Courthouse Reserve. Now, if the Bell Tower is such a disgrace to Manchester Square, "why remove it to such a coaspieooas piace as th« Courthouse Reserve ? Why not shift it at once down to the hank of the Oroua river, or to some back section where it will not be seen ? If I was one or the residents near the Courthouse Reserve I should decidedly object to such an ungainly object being placed there. I wonder at the Borough Councillors ever entertaining the idea of such a nuisance being placed in front of their new magnificent Council Chambers. But, before taking such a step, I should like to know if the members of the Fire Brigade, " who are the most interested," or the residents of the Square, are in favor it. From what I can gather they are all opposed to it (but I may be wrongly informed). As far as I can gather there are only one or two who are agitating for its removal. I am, etc., Antiquarian.
