Messrs Dale and Reynolds are organising an exhibition of Colonial produce at the Agricultural Hall at Islington in June 1896, and ask the Australian Colonies and Canada to guarantee £29,000 towards the cost. The AgentGeneral of New South Wales convenes a meeting of Agents- General to consider the proposal. There is a general fall in securities in sympathy with the relapse of the mining market. The Berkshire sheep have arrived in excellent condition and are quite equal to any that have yet arrived from the colony. The Free Labor Conference representing 120,000 men, condemned the action of the Unions in attempting to force the Government to introduce the Employers Liability Bill which the Conference believe would inflict an injustice on the employers. The total amount subscribed for the New South Wales £4,000,000 3 per cent loan, with a minimum of £94, was £6,800,000. It is expected to average nearly £98. One large syndicate tend- ] ered for the whole amount at £96 14s, but only gets 52 per cent. A mining relapse has begun with ! West Australian have undergone a genedecline, but to a less extent than Africans. The Colonial Investors' Agency balance sheet shows a loss for the year of £7126. A call of 5s per share will be made in November. The Victorian Government declined Birt Potter's offers for a producer's service for a three years contract and will only accept a two years term and refuse to guarantee any quantity of freight. IN egofciations will probably cease. Paris, October 9, The capture of Antananarivo is confirmed. Brussels, October 9. The Congo Free State is recruiting 6000 natives to serve under Major Thanis. The force is to be employed in preventing aggression on the frontier.
