The Dean Case.
A FOURTH ARREST TO BE MADE. SMITH, THE CHEMIST, CAREFULLY GUARDED. I CRICK TO SPEAK IN PARLIAMENT. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, October 5. Owing to the holiday there is no further development in the Dean case. The preliminary hearing of the charge against Meagher, Crick, and Dean begins on Thursday. This Day. The Crown authorities are busy preparing a case for the prosecution. They have thoroughly examined all the papers found in Crick and Meagher's office, but nothing new of any importance was discovered. While it is probable several further arrests will be made, it is certain proceedings will be taken against a fourth individual if he can be found. A warrant was issued, but so fur the police have failed to trace him. He is in no way connected with the alleged poisoning, but it is stated that, whilst cognisant with Dean's position, he took an active part in the agitation for the appointment of the Commission. Smith is being kept carefully out of the way by the prosecution. Gnck intends to defend his own case, and Burton will defend Meagher. The ease being sub jiidicc, it is doubtful whether Crick will be allowed to speak in the Assembly to-day, regarding his arrest, as he proposes, He holds nothing can prevent him, and declares his intention of ventilating the whole matter, but it has been the invariable prac tice of the Speakers in the past not to allow matters in this position to be discussed.
