(Per Press Association.) Invercargill, Oct. 5. A boy, aged 12 years, named Donovan of Orepuki, has been gored to death by a cow, wbich he was attending while it was calving. Dunedin, October 5. The cycling season was opened to-day with a procession, in which 200 took part. The ladies' club was represented by about a dozen members. Christchurch, October 5. At a meeting of the Christchurch Prohibition League, the report of the Commissioner of Police was considered, and the League affirmed its conviction that notwithstanding the unsatisfactory state of the licensing law convictions could be obtained if the police were in earnest about the matter. Auckland, Oct. 7. Henry Turner, laborer at the Newmarket railway workshops, died suddenly this morning. He had been at work yesterday morning and took ill in the afternoon. He leaves a widow. At the Police Court Professor Ernest Thripp, who has been doing business as a phrenologist and palmist pleaded guilty and was fined 21s and costs.
