The Band Contest.

(Per Press Association.) Timaru,, Oct. 3. At the Band Contest to-day, the quickstep competition was brought off with great success. There were over 5000 people present on the Athletic Grounds, .£125 being taken in gate money. The weather was beautifully fine. The competition result occupied four hours, the Stan more Band being the only band to withdraw. The result was as follows :— First prize, _10 and £S 8s cup, Timaru Garrison Band, 153* points; second, £6, Invercargill City Guards, 149| points ; third, _2, Wellington Garrison Band, 147J points. Tbe other bands were : — Kaikorai, 145g points; Christchurch Garrison, 140J ; Waimate Brass Band, 137 ; Sydenham Brass Band, 163 ; V ; Dunedin Navals, 135-j ; Canterbury Engineers, 134 A ; Oamaru Navals and Oamaru Garrison, 133 f each.
