Allegations Against a Constable.
1 (Per Press Association.) Gisborne, This Day. Inspector Emerson is expected here from Napier to-day, and will hold an inquiry into the circumstances connected | with the following case :— On July 15th, 1895, Sergeant-Major instructed Constable Norman to proceed to Waimata to serve a suirimons on a man named William Green,' who" was required td attend the Napier Police Court on July 22nd, and answer a charge of failing to contribute to the support of his children. Green was employed at that time on cooperative works at Waimata, a distance of about 28 hues from Gisbcrpp, Constable Norman set out on July lbth, and returned to town shortly after' midday on the "l6th '. He made an ' affidavit before Mr Matthewsou, J.P., that he had served the summons on Green. The man Green says that he was not served with the summons by Constable Norman. He further alleges that he can bring witnesses to prove that Constable Norman was not in the vicinity of the camp on the 25th July, and that ho was working with his mates near the camp all that day. He has placed his complaint in the hands of Messrs Rees and Day, solicitors, who have demanded an inquiry into the conduct of the constable.
