(Per Press Association.) Auckland, Sept. 22Edward Crawson an ex-employe of the Tramway Company, who attempted recently to stop some horses bolting with a bus, died of his injuries at the hospital. At the inquiry on the body of Kereti Whakapouranoi, who fell off his horse and broke his neck riding to a tangi at Tekuito, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Makuri stood in front of the tent where the body lay and declared that no European should view the body. In spite of his objections the coroner, jury and Dr Bews viewed the body, and held the inquiry. Many coses of pick-pocket continue to be reported. James Pergneson, a recent arrival here, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment to-day for picking a lady's pocket in a local church. Mr Northcroft, S.M recently stated his intention to deal severely with all convicted offenders who appear before him. Invercargill, Sept. 21. Louisa Violet Poole, a young woman, informed the police that on the Bth September she attempted an illegal operation, and that the father of the child was a local constable. This morning she was committed for trial.
