"The Artful Dodger."
A NEW USE FOR AN ELECTRIC BATTERY. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, This Day. Abraham's malingering was discovered by means of an electric battery. He lay completely supine with bis eyes closed, and had to be fed. Tlie prisoner never spoke. Tbe doctors reported that the stupor was the result of a shock, and that it was impossible to cure him if he remained in gaol with the environments of a prison. Dr Shield, believing the prisoner to be shamming, applied the battery. Abrahams stood the first shock very well, but when the charge was increased he showed signs of distress. The doctor told him if he would admit he was shamming he would stop the current. The prisoner admitted the malingering, although he still refused to move or feed himself. Further threats of the battery, however, made him talk, eat, and walk about tbe room. Probably a similar cure will be tried with Louis Abrahams, who is still in a like condition from which his brother has been restored.
