Electrocution of a Doctor.
The electrocution of Dr Robert W. Buchanan, at Sing Sing Prison, New York, afforded yet another demonstration of the imperfections of the method. Tbe crime for which Buchanan paid the penalty was committed ia the spring of 1892, in New York. The culprit, who had divorced bis wife, marrying another divorced woman named Sutherland, the latter immediately before Buchanan married, was induced to make a will leaving all her property to the doctor. Shortly after the marriage tbe woman b3came seriously ill and died, and a post mortem examination established the fact that death was due to morphine and some undetermined irritant drug. Buchanan was convicted and sentenced to dsath. When the electric current was tamed off the pulse resumed action. A sscond shock was then applied. At the cad of that time life was pronounced to b 3 extinct.
