Contest for the American Cup.

(Per Press Association.) New York, Sept. 10. In the second contest for the America Cup, The Valkyrie was first away, and almost immediately an accident happened, her boom carrymg away the defender's starboard sbroud. The latter protested and the yachts were recalled, but nevertheless held on their course. The Valkyrie led all the way and Avon by 48 seconds. , „ 3 September 11. When the Valkyrie finished sbe was escorted by steamers, a band ou which played the National Anthem of Great Britain, and there was immense cheerio*. The course on this occasion was much better kept tban in the first race. Tho wind varied from 8 to 15 knots.
