Alleged Criminal Libel.

A JACK THE KIPPER INEARTHED. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, Sept. 9. In the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court this afternoon F. H. Von Schoenberg appeared on au information charging him with libelling E. J. Jellicoe, solicitor, in a letter written to Mrs Chemis. Defendant, who has appeared both in the Supreme and Magistrate's Courts lately as interpreter in various cases brought by Kniggc, restaurant keeper, against his wife, all of which ended in a fiasco, asked for a remand, as he could not get a solicitor to act for him. He made a rambling statement accusing persons of being desiroun of injuring him and said that he had been twice accused of shooting persons, while all the while he was trying to bring " Jack the Ripper," whom he knew all about, to justice. He gave a description of " The Ripper," who ho said had been stoppiug in his house in Timaru tor some time. " Jack's " real name was Karl Kappe. He was an artist, " a spoilt artist," of no means and no trade, a countryman of his, and was in addition a cannibal. He had seen him take pieces off the bodies of his victims and cat them when he was hungry. At this stage Mr Martin, S.M. decided to adjourn the libel case until Friday, and in the meantime Schoenburg agreed to substantiate his charges re the " Ripper " privately to the Magistrate.
