«. (Per Press Association.) ArcKLAND, Sept. 7. A very serious accident happened to the mail coach going into Paeroa this morning. Going down a steep hill near Oaohawai the brake gave way. There was a full load of bassengers. The coach capsized, the passengers all being thrown out. The coach turned completely over. It was carried to the bottom of the hill and over the bridge at the foot by the terrified horses. The coach was completely wrecked. All the passengers were more or less hurt. The driver (J. O'Donnell) had his ancle dislocated, J. Hatton had his arm put out and Gray, of Tauranga, was badly knocked about. Masterton, Sept. 7. The sad intelligence reached town yesterday that William Waite, the eldest eon of Mr William Waite, schoolmaster, had been drowned in the Euamahunga River about 15 miles from Masterton. The coal export for the week was : — Cardiff Company, 143 tons : Westport Coal Company, 3100 tons ; total, 3243 tons. Timaru, Sept. 7. The annual meeting of the Farmers' Cooperative Association to-day was satisfactory. The profits for distribution amounted to £2154, paying 6' per cent, bonus on shareholders' purchases. The retiring directors were re-elected.
