Frozen Meat Conference.

IMPORTANT TO FARMERS. (Per Press Association). Wellington, Sept. 6. The Conference resumed at 10 o'clock. After further discussion the second clause in Mr Begjj'a series of resolutions, affirming the desirability of an uniform system of grading, was carried on the voices. The third clause to the effect that storage accommodation in the colony should be increased in order to regulate tho supply, was carried without discussion. Mr Orbell's proposals were then considared, The first resolution for tho appointment of a permanent committee to watch the interests of the trade was agreed to, as also was the second clause, urging the appointment of inspectors of slaughter houses to examine sheep before being killed. The proposal that Government should assist in the erection of cool stores at various ports was lost by a very large majority. Mr Orbell moved, and Mr Phillips seconded, " That wilh a view to the concentration of the trade in Great Britain, it is desirable the distribution of our meat should be placed in the hands of as few agents as possible, and this Conference strongly recommends the freezing companies and others interested to give effect to this resolution as far as practicable." This was agreed to. It was decided to approach the Government, and urge that the month of Janu ary be substituted for the present date in making up the sheep returns. The following were appointed as Executive Committee : — North Island — Messrs Bidwell, Buchanan, Pbarazyn, Millwood and Nelson. South IslandSir J. Hall, Messrs Begs*, Macfarlane, Chaytor and Fergus. The Secretary of Agriculture informed the conference that the agricultural statistics would in the futnre be collected in November and the returns would be ready before March. Mr Fisher, Waikato, said the statement as to the spread of anthrax were* greatly exaggerated. The disease would soon be stamped out.
