(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, Sep*. 2. The first sitting in the Colony of the Compensation Court under the Land for Settlements Act, 1894, was held to day. The claim before the Court was by the New Zealand and Australian Land Company for £45,890 for the Ardgowan estate, which the Minister of Lands has compulsorily taken under the Act. The sum offered by Government for the property we.s i-29,911. The case which will likely extend over several days is being heard before Justice Williams as President of the Coart and two assessors, Messrs Donald Reid (assessor appointed by plaintiffs) and Ilobert Hay (assessor appointed by Government.)
