The Gold Mining Boom.
AN IMPOKTANT DISCOVERY. (Per Press Association). Auckland, August 30. There is a good deal of excitement in town to-day owing to what appears to be the famous Martha lode of the Waihi mine having been discovered two miles away from that property, i The reef is reported 40ft wide and its assay value £15 per ton. Pegging out is proceeding briskly, and the discovery is considered to be most important as opening up a large area of country. The month's crushing of the Waihi mine was 2700 tons of ore, yielding L 8519 worth of bullion. This Day. The Waihi Company has declared another dividend of 2s per share. Wellington, August 30. Mr Zinian, who has returned from a visit to the west coast of the South Island, lias acquired possession of an interest in all the principal mines in the Reef ton district, and some others on the Humphrey's gully propeaty. He says it is proposed to spend some L 50.000 to complete the water race. Mr Ziman's opinion is New Zealanders do not know the value of their own mines. . He believes that through the inefficient processes employed more than half the gold is sent out to sea in tailings, and generally he has rather a poor idea of the way the workings have been carried on. ,«^^^^— ■■■■■■
