Auckland, August 30 Benjamin Shnire, a Russian Jew, a printer, who arrived from Sydney a few days ago, took an over dose of morphia at his lodgings last night, and died at the hospital to-day at 2 a.m.. [Shmre had previouslyjattetnpted suicide at Wellington and Sydney by taking morphia]. The safe on the Onehunga railway station was blown np in the same way as the one at Papaknra recently. The sum of £8 was stolen. 1 As the cutter Gleaner was going up the Tauranga harbour, a young seaman named Lauson, a Swede, while furling the sails, was knocked overboard and drowned. Wellington, August 2g. The police have arrested nine men on a 1 charge of vagrancy, some of whom are supposed to be concerned in the burglaries so rife of late. Dr. Whitehead, locum tenens for Dr. 1 Collins, who is absent in England' died tonight from pneumonia, which super--1 vened an attack of influsnza.
