PRISON DISCIPLINE.
According to the report of the Inspector of Pnsons those under control of the Justice Department have to pay clue attention to their religious exorcises. One criminal for refusing to attend prayers had to forfeit 10 marks and a second had one day bread and water. For idleness a third had to undergo the same privation while others were put on the same diet for one, two, three and seven days respectively because they refused to work. A lady for creating a disturbance whilst under punishment, had on two occasions four days of the same course of treatment. For using insulting language and tighting, forfeiture of marks or bread and water diet were allotted to several offenders. One gentleman passed twenty four hours in irons for making an unnecessary noise in his cell, while a lady who indulged in singing and shouting in her cell after lock up had the fever in her blood cooled with bread and water for a day. Another gent'enian who created a disturbance in his eel! — and added to his ode nee by using threatening language to his otficer — had broad and water for three days to teach him propriety of conduct and moderation of language. For assaulting a companion in misfortune an unfortunate had the same diet for forty eight Jiours.
