At a meeting of the unemployed Relief Works Committee a recommendation that ns the work cannot last more than a few weeks longer a number of men should be paid off on Friday, was agreed to. The Chamber of Commerce has passed a resolution against the payment of the subsidy of £'20,000 to the Vancouver mail service on the ground that the Colony could not afford it, as it is already well supplied with mail services. Auckland, August 26. The Richmond arrived three days late from Raratoiura, owing to the crank shaft of the steamer carrying away. Having a spare one on board the enginI cor replaced it, but had to shift the cargo, and lost three days.
